An Immersion Into The World Of Vintage With Vacheron Constantin

Of course, there were watches on hand as well, highlighted by the new Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater – currently the world’s thinnest minute repeater at 6.85 mm tani hublot zegarki thick, as Jack detailed here. Also spotted, the Octo Ultranero Chrono, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, the Octo Velocissimo, and the Serpenti Tubogas, to name just a few.In François-Paul Journe's early work, like his Résonance pocket watch movement in 1983 and the prototype Chronomètre à Résonance wristwatch in 1998, you see the "child's eye" of reckless abandon – designs conscious of the depth of watchmaking history yet only preoccupied with what "could be."In a lineup where the black 3861 Moonwatch is the perfect way to appreciate a direct descendant of horological and astronautical history, all the subtle changes on the new white dial make it feel like the first truly modern Moonwatch release from the Swatch Group. White dial Speedmasters are nothing new, as Mark highlights in his Week on the Wrist, but this one as a Moonwatch feels different.

The Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune With "New York" meteorite dial: case, platinum, 43mm, 30 meters water resistance, sapphire crystals front and back. Movement, Hermès caliber H1837, with exclusive module; hours, minutes, date, dual moon-phase indicators for the northern and southern hemispheres; 26mm (38 with module) x 3.7mm (7.9mm with module) and running in 42 jewels (28 for the movement plus 14 for the module) at 28,800 vph. Limited edition, 16 pieces, price, $69,950. See more at Hermes .It's the spiritual successor to the Seiko H558 diver from 1982, which was famously worn by Mr. "I'll falsos gucci relógios be back," himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not only was it Seiko's first analog alarm chronograph watch, but it was the world's first. So the SNJ025 has serious heritage. The H558 also spawned the boom of ana-digi watches in the '80s, including the original Breitling Aerospace. The Tuna comes packing a brilliant L-shaped rubber gasket that keeps helium out. The in-house 8L35 movement is made by Grand Seiko in its legendary SII facility in Morioka. The 26-jewel, 50-hour power reserve, 28,800 bpm 8L35 is essentially an un-bedazzled 9S55. Remember, it's a monocoque case with no display, so you'll never see the movement anyhow.Wait, you might say, the AP and the Vacheron are platinum and skeletonized, while the Patek is none of those things. This is of course true, and while I once had a platinum 3940P on my wrist for a few sublime seconds, there didn't seem to be one available among the couple thousand watches at the Miami Beach Antique Show, so I had to make do (poor me). And Patek never made a skeletonized 3940 anyway – the naughtiest thing Patek ever did was put the movement on display through a sapphire caseback.

Daniels had an idea for a new escapement with two escape wheels instead of the traditional one, superimposed on the same axle, that he believed would make mechanical watches more accurate and require less service. A new co-axial escapement – that would show the electricians!Worth noting is the fact that the Tresor Magique was produced in an arguably not-so-limited, limited edition of 12,999 pieces – though it's a special piece nonetheless, and surely one of the more unconventional offerings in Swatch's history. Should its limited edition nature still resonate with you, you'll surely appreciate the individual replica goyard tasche numbering found on the rotor of each example, in addition to the presence of the original display box and additional strap. The Light Up feels very Louis Vuitton, right off the bat – overall, pretty tight in fit and finish; there's a quick-change strap system of course, and the Tambour case, which has been the signature case shape for LV since 2002, connects it right away to the larger watch design language of the company. This is not, however, your father's Tambour – as a matter of fact it's not even your slightly older cousin who is window shopping for a starter bungalow in Westchester's Tambour.Ref. 3733/1G evokes a similar design quality, but this time with a rectangular and lapis dial, and continuity of case to bracelet. The focus for Patek during the '70s was clearly on form, texture, and weight. "These bracelets are Mithril," joked Toledano. But in some ways, I agree that there is a mythical quality to both these mesh and tubular forms in Toledano's collection. With a sort of kaleidoscopic effect and emulation of organic texture and form – snakeskin and bark: Horological LSD.
