Bevan Viljoen - Transatlantic Films Best Actor Lands Role in the Ghost of the Black Sea

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 08, 2015) - Actor Bevan Viljoen is not a household name yet, but he may be well on his way.  The tall, handsome and athletic Viljoen is making tongues wag and shutters snap after landing a role in the $11 million Ivan Getz film The Ghost of the Black Sea. Ghost, helmed by director Mark L. Lester, will begin shooting this coming September on location in Bulgaria.

Viljoen is getting even more attention and phone calls for his role in the feature Fighting Talk, which he describes as one of his "dream roles."

That he is a native of the U.K. is not an issue for Viljoen, as he carries a traditional American accent as easily as he does his native, London-esque intonations. But mastering performance does not stop with oration for Viljoen. “I’ve been very diligently researching the criminal investigation techniques and protocols the FBI uses,” Viljoen said recently. He went on to state that “While the FBI’s methodologies are similar to those of Scotland Yard, there are ways of doing things that are particularly ‘American,’ and the audience will notice if I deliver them incorrectly, which I dare not.”

Good to Be the Bad Guy
Earlier in 2015, Viljoen played the evil character Count von Drake in the television pilot Mistress of Justice. For this role, he wore special make-up and a prosthetic mask through most of the filming, but he bore up well. “Honestly, anyone who plays a German sounding count in movies or television is likely to be the villain,” he said, commenting on the role with a smile. “But it was really cold where we were filming, so the mask and costume were handy for staying both warm and in character throughout.”

Challenging Path
Show business is incredibly competitive. The path to becoming a working actor in the U.S. and other parts of the world did not come easily to Viljoen. There were near-hits, disappointments, and dashed hopes along the way. One of those was when he was approached about playing a major part in the American film “Faster” while visiting Los Angeles on vacation a couple years back. “I lost the part to Dwayne Johnson,” he laments. “Of course Dwayne is a gifted performer with the athletic ability to play roles like that. He also was a known quantity in the U.S., which made him an excellent choice. I must admit, I found it flattering to be in a class with someone like that even though I did not get the part ultimately. And I think just the right one for me is coming up.”

The Physical and Mental Part of Acting
While Viljoen has not yet been named WWE Champion like Johnson, his training regimen certainly qualifies him for a shot at the title. “I train hard at the gym six days a week keeping myself not only physically conditioned but mentally focused for the day ahead,” he notes. “Funny thing…. sometimes a decision on a particular thing about a character will come to me while I'm working out. Somewhat of a sense of clarity that athletes and martial artists also experience; it's kind of a being ‘in the zone,’ so to speak.”

Fortunately for this up and coming actor, all the training and introspection are starting to pay off, not just in the form of great film and television roles, but with recognition from his peers. In 2014 Viljoen won the “Transatlantic Films Best Actor Award.” Two other films in which he appeared are also nominated for awards at the Nova Film Festival in Atlanta.

When talking about the recognition he is receiving, Viljoen commented, “To receive the accolade and be recognized by my peers, as well as being acknowledged by several of the industry’s top producers and directors sort of validates all the hard work over the past few years. All of us worked so incredibly hard to make things as real as possible during filming. Having audiences enjoy the work is most important. To be nominated for awards adds the icing to the cake.”
