They’d certainly find that the game has changed immensely, and not in all respects for the better. As a manager, you simply have to adjust with the changing times – even Alex Ferguson found that he had to do that to stay successful. But that doesn’t mean, and can’t mean, that you stop exerting authority over your players. You have to earn the players’ respect, of course, but that authority remains a must.
