Neighbour shocked over death of Sherwood Park mother of three

EDMONTON Neighbours are reeling after a mother of three was found dead Wednesday inside her Sherwood Park home.

"I was totally shocked, I couldn't sleep all night," said Kathy Van Esch, who lives near the woman on Foxhaven Court. "I couldn't believe it. So sad."

The woman's name and age have not yet been released by RCMP. Police declined to say Wednesday what led them to the house on a Sherwood Park cul de sac near the intersection of Foxhaven Drive and Clover Bar Road or whether the death is being considered a homicide. Instead, RCMP are describing the death as "sudden," and say an autopsy was being done Thursday morning.

A heavy police presence was obvious around the house for much of the day on Wednesday. Several residents of the area said they were temporarily barred from the well Pandora Christmas Jewelry kept cul de sac where the home is located.

Police tape was put up around the house, a two storey home with a minivan in the driveway and packages of shingles sitting on the roof.

Van Esch said the woman, her husband and their three girls lived at the home for about 11 years before the couple split up and the husband moved out. Divorce documents filed in court show the couple married in 1997 and stopped living together in February 2014. The divorce application was filed by the woman in May 2014.

"They are a very, very nice family," Van Esch said.

She said her 13 year old great grandson, who lived with her last year, Pandora Christmas Jewelry was close with the family. He was often over at their house or playing outside with the three Pandora Xmas Charms girls.

"Through him, we know the family . He was so close to them, he adopted them as his second family. I hate to think when he finds out about that," she said.

"He thought they were the perfect, perfect family."

Van Esch said Pandora Christmas Charms she ran into her neighbour at the Sherwood Park Mall last Friday and they chatted about the children.

"She looked very happy," she said.
