Why Won't My Canon Printer Connect to My WiFi? [Easy Fixes]

Canon printers are reliable and effective for wireless printing. They are compatible with Mac, Android, Windows, and iOS devices, allowing seamless connectivity. However, with time and use, Canon printers can show problems with the wireless connection. I’m your tech guide. I gained hands-on experience fixing printer connections by helping friends and neighbors, which inspired me to create tech blogs. This blog covers all the steps to troubleshoot and fix a Canon printer that isn’t connecting to WiFi.

Reason 1: WiFi Connection Issues

WiFi glitches can prevent your printer from connecting. Resetting your WiFi password or placing the printer too far from the router can disrupt the connection.

Solution 1: Reset Your Router

The first thing you should do is reset your wireless router. This method can improve the router’s wireless strength and fix the printer issue. Unplug the wireless router from the power source, wait 1–2 minutes, and reconnect it. Allow the router lights to stabilize before proceeding.

This is a simple process you can try. If it doesn’t work and the Canon printer still doesn’t connect to the WiFi, you can try the next method.

Solution 2: Forget and Reconnect to a WiFi Network

Forgetting a WiFi network removes it from the printer’s memory, allowing you to reconnect and resolve the issue. Let’s see how to do it.

Step 1: Forget the WiFi Network

  1. Go to your printer’s Control Panel and locate the Network/Settings or Setup option.
  2. Under that option, check your wireless network.
  3. When you see your WiFi network name on the display, select the Forget or Remove option. The options may vary depending on your printer model name.

Let the printer make changes, and then reconnect the wireless network to your printer. Check out the steps for reconnecting your printer to the WiFi network.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to a WiFi Network

  1. After a few seconds, you’ll again see the nearby WiFi networks under the wireless network settings. You’ll find it in the same menu where you previously removed the network.
  2. Select your WiFi network from the on-screen list and click the Connect button.

The printer will reconnect to the WiFi network. Now, you can use it for printing.

Reason 2: Outdated Printer Drivers

If you aren’t familiar with printer drivers, let me explain them. Printer drivers are software that allows your operating system to communicate with your printer. This is an important part of the printer, and if it is not updated, it will show problems. Therefore, you need to update it to the latest version.

Solution: Update Printer Drivers

Canon regularly releases updated printer drivers. If you don’t install them on your computer device, your printer will show connection-related problems.

Step 1: Downloading Drivers

  1. Visit Canon’s support page at support.usa.canon.com on an internet browser like Chrome.
  2. Click the Support option from the top. Then, scroll down on the website and select Printer from the device type.
  3. Now, select your printer model type and the printer name from the page.
  4. Next, click the Software & Drivers option.
  5. After that, choose your operating system from the drop-down menu.
  6. Now, you’ll see a list of Canon printer drivers on the screen. Select the Download option next to the suitable driver.

The computer will start downloading the printer drivers. They will be saved in the Downloads folder. You need to install them manually.

Step 2: Installing Drivers

  1. Locate your Downloads folder on the computer.
  2. Find the driver file (.exe file) and double-click on it.
  3. Now, a prompt will ask your permission to run this driver file. Click Yes to that prompt.
  4. Finally, an installation wizard will appear.

Let this installation process finish. This is for downloading and installing the printer drivers.

Reason 3: Hardware Problems

Hardware issues can significantly affect the printer’s performance. If the hardware has a fault, the printer may not connect to WiFi. In this case, you must power cycle the printer to fix the mild glitch. This process may seem very simple, but it is helpful to combat minor hardware-related issues in the printer. Let’s check how to do it:

  1. Press the power button on your printer to turn it off completely.

  1. Then, disconnect its power cord from the main power switch on the wall.
  2. Wait for 1–2 minutes, and then reconnect the power cord to the main power switch on the wall.
  3. Next, press the power button on the printer to turn it on again.

This method will fix the hardware-related problem, and you’ll be able to connect your printer to WiFi.
