The Breguet "Queen of Naples" collection of watches was
Gen Z Retro Hacks born from a connection between a client and a watchmaker. The watchmaker was Abraham Louis Breguet, and the client was Caroline Murat, née Bonaparte, who was Queen Consort Of Naples from 1808 to 1815. Caroline Murat was an enthusiastic collector of Breguet timepieces and during her lifetime would own more than thirty of them, including a unique, oval-shaped wristwatch which included a repeating mechanism as well as a thermometer. The Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic has a personality all its own – and one distinctly different from its heritage-leaning forebearers. It gives off a real Blade Runner vibe, but despite that fact – in overall styling – it's still very much a Captain Cook. Keeping with that theme is the dial, which really isn't a dial. It's actually a black-tinted sapphire giving way to the gears of the movement beneath. It features everything that makes a "conventional" (if there is such a thing) Royal Oak so damn good – namely the grande tapisserie dial, the thin profile, the integrated bracelet that's a work of art unto itself, and of course, the octagonal bezel – but the ceramic-cased RO QP pushes it all to the max. The use of state-of-the-art colored ceramic for the case and bracelet means the entire package is bolder, more recognizable, and more scratch-proof than ever before.Back to the question that has been spinning me out for seasons now. How to define luxury in a modern context? Quiet luxury haunts me in the same way athleisure haunts me. It's like everything I care about on a material level – glamor, color, layered fabric and excess – has been aggressively snatched away. I'm not saying I want my clothes to look arts and crafts levels of eccentric, but why the need to have a future less glamorous than the past?
The watches are both available to receive bids at present, but the final auction does not take place until September 23 at 10:00 AM PDT (that'll be 1:00 PM over here in New York), at which point
Rescue Rehab live bidding will begin and online bidding will be completed. Currently, the Baume & Mercier sits at $3,750 with 11 bids, while the Seiko is at $2,250 with five bids. For more on Steve Jobs's Baume & Mercier, click here. Gerald Genta designed it a year before the Royal Oak, and its mesh bracelet and slim case slither around the wrist. Est. CHF 50–100,000.
At the core, Piaget's is
AI Driven Devices a family story. "We're in a global group now, but before there was a kind of discrepancy – between how a family thinks about its business, and how the group thinks about the business," Forot says.Further than that, the brand's continued commitment to pushing its own technical limits is perhaps what's most exciting. For a brand that first made the Submariner for divers in the '50s, then the Sea-Dweller for SEALAB inhabitants in the '60s, the Deepsea Challenge is a fitting next chapter to the story. The point, to me, is a bit of an afterthought, but if you're the kind of person who can (and wants to) pull this watch off, you're going to have to part with CHF 49,900. But man, you're going to have a blast while wearing it.
