It's worth mentioning here that Ellen herself is a watch collector of some note. We spotted
Fake Watches her wearing a vintage Rolex Daytona ref. 6265 (in solid gold, no less) earlier this year when she interviewed President Barack Obama.Caliber: HMC 811Functions: Hours, minutesDiameter: 34mmThickness: 5.5mm (without hands or tourbillon)Power Reserve: 74 hoursWinding: Automatic bi-directional pawl winding systemFrequency: 21,600 vbh / 3 HzJewels: 28Chronometer Certified: N/AAdditional Details: Fully skeletonized; gold oscillating weight; cylindrical hairspring; one-minute flying tourbillon at six o'clock with skeletonized bridge and hand-beveled balance bridge; diamond beveling throughoutStrap this titanium diver to your wrist and it's as though there is no mass in the case of the watch. It all just blends in with the bulk of the strap. It feels great, and with 20mm lugs, you can swap in any strap you like. Want it to really disappear on your wrist? Throw the Challenge Diver on a perlon and the total weight drops to just 60g.In Watch of the Week, we invite Hodinkee staffers and friends to tell us a personal story they have about a watch. The author of today's feature is Elias Marte, real estate agent, fashion dealer, and founding member of #teamcozyboys.
My highlights for this week's selection include two chronographs from the 1960s. They were both originally marketed toward pilots but are quite different in aesthetics and execution. The Universal Genève Aero-Compax "Type B" you see below, for instance, is a rare bird that stands out through a number of small details that, taken together, form an excellent example of what makes vintage Universal Genève chronographs so popular today. So there you have it, "Pepsi" stands as the HODINKEE Community's definitive "People's Champion." May it continue to spread by word of mouth to new enthusiasts for years to come. Thanks to everyone for participating, and keep a lookout for more chances to lend your voice in the

The Cabaret Tourbillon was launched in 2008, and discontinued in 2013, and it featured something new for both Lange, and for the world of tourbillon watches, in general. This was an innovative stop-seconds mechanism.Genta was catering to a clientele of sultans and royals in the Middle East and Asia: a demographic who wanted unusual and ornate pieces with gemstones and decorative flourishes. This custom business model enabled Genta to pass from the more conservative aesthetic he employed while designing for the Swiss giants to entirely eccentric and often extravagant pieces of applied art.
After spending a few weeks with the Tudor Pelagos FXD, including
nep givenchy a week SCUBA diving with it off the rustic Dutch island of Bonaire in the West Caribbean, my attitude shifted from a watch nerd's middling curiosity to a diver's full-blown fandom. My perspective transitioned in stages as I came to better appreciate the FXD's aesthetic, experience its functional design, and, finally, maximize its unique capabilities as an underwater navigational tool. The modern Santos sits very comfortably as one of Cartier's most successful designs in the current catalog. Perhaps it's a touch more wearable than the Octo Finissimo and it's a little more within budget too at $32,000 – though if we're talking solid gold watches, then budget sort of feels arbitrary.Manipulating the architecture of the watch's crystal is undoubtedly Grima-esque. Toledano cites Grima's designs for Omega, as well as Genta's faceted dials for his namesake brand in the '90s, as important sources of inspiration. I myself can't help but think of 1940s Patek-shaped crystals, notably the Top Hat ref.1450 and Hourglass ref.1593, whose super thick curved crystals alter your entire perception of the case shape and mildly distort the dial.
