I got to handle this watch the day it was released at an Oris product presentation in Colorado. I don't really need selling on the Aquis GMT formula. A dive GMT is one of my favorite mashups making for a perfect travel watch. Is it big? Sure: 43.5 millimeters across with some good girth. But it's what I expect from Oris divers, short of the vintage inspired Diver 65, and the stubby lugs with its integrated strap makes it a surprisingly wearable watch on a variety of
nep versace wrists. It's like using energy to stay small in a sense. The last watch for the 105 is this limited edition. And of course with the material, maybe they said, "You know, you can bring out the tantalum one more time because you're only going to make a few." I guess that's the reason I was allowed to do it.I personally derive great pleasure from collecting – and I try to focus on items that hold strong memories of the places I’ve been and the people I’ve encountered. Recollecting these moments makes me happy.
Last fall, we were thrilled to open the doors to an Audemars Piguet boutique in Manhasset. This joint venture with the brand is one of the first of its kind, allowing us to offer boutique exclusives, like the highly anticipated
fausse vacheron constantin montres Remaster 01, a throwback to the 1940s released in a limited edition of 500 pieces. There can be no list of gold watches without a Rolex Day-Date. More than any watch, and certainly any Rolex, it has come to represent a kind of romanticized sport-leisure that many people seem to have in mind when they buy a luxury watch. Sure, it is an ornate, 36mm 18k watch with a matching bracelet – the most famous of its kind. But rocking the Day-Date on a President all summer long, with shorts and a t-shirt, would just feel so, so good.Sure, the 1415 is still a million-dollar watch, but it'll never be anything close to "the most expensive wristwatch" like it was in 2002. It's too small, too niche, and modern collectors just don't care as much about its historical importance as collectors did two decades ago.
The first time I saw
fausse audemars piguet montres one of these was at a small watchmaker's workshop in Geneva, and every time I saw it, I asked him if I could buy it, Laplace says. "One day I found one online that wasn't in great shape, so I tried to repair it myself. More recently, last year, a man called and offered me one in perfect condition. So I immediately had to buy it; that's this one."The Astron may not be the sexiest watch out there – heck, it's not even the sexiest Seiko. But it's the most accurate and the most technologically compelling. In the end, it's a testament to just how far watches have come. Before the Polo, Piaget had been reticent to use model names because it wanted to create an entire Piaget Style."Before the Polo, you used to just wear Piaget the way you'd wear Chanel," Jean-Bernard Forot, told me last year. "The Piaget family wasn't focused on creating icons, but on creating a style."With the Polo, they managed to create both.Towards the tail end of this vintage Rolex era, interest in modern and independent watches slowly overtook decades-old creations of the Crown, unseating vintage Rolex as the "cool" or "on trend" categories to collect and be interested in. But vintage Rolex is not going anywhere, even when it is not "hot," records continue to be broken, and astute collectors are taking advantage of this sneaky bear market.
