In the 80’s is where I first took notice of the brand and to be honest, they were making a lot of weak sauce quartz reissue stuff meant to look like iconic models such as the Ventura (my first "nice" watch ever) and the Piping Rock.With its blend of rough textures and polished details, it is easy to see the architect in Michiel coming through Luxus Replik Uhren with the Brutalist inspiration.But there is a second watch that jumps to my mind when fantasizing about all-time great watch designs — the Cartier Tank, specifically the TanThis is our first gloss dial Rolex diver in Fowler's collection and gives us a better sense of what makes the above, matte dial, ref. 16800 so special. But this one's no slouch, either. It was released in a slightly less limited batch of 150, and its glossy black dial features a form of aging where the dial has cracks and splinters in it. In vintage watch-speak, we call that a "Spider dial."


Its 45mm diameter carbon and titanium case, entirely in shades of grey, protects an openworked dial on which billige zenith ure the hour and minute hands, the chronograph counters, a small seconds hand, and a power reserve indicator located at 12 o’clock are positioned.The complication is controlled by an extra module on the movement, developed by CVDK.So, although I admired the watch and the story, I never got to buy one before.

Louis Vuitton calls it a "neo-classical expression of watchmaking" because of the high-end finishing exhibited in the Chronometre Artisans' in-house caliber that exposes the balance wheel and gear train.
