Your Gut
Psalm 30:2
O Lord my God, I cried unto you (I desperately called on you for help), and you have healed me.
Proverbs 3:7-8
Be not wise in your own eyes (Do not rely on your own awareness): fear (respect) the Lord, and depart from evil (doing things against God and others). [8] It shall be health to your navel (stomach), and marrow (life substance) to your bones (structural makeup).
Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, attend (pay attention) to my words; incline your ear (listen) unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes (read them all the time); keep them in the middle of your heart (meditate on God's word). For they are life unto those that find them (understand them), and health to all their flesh (body).
Mustard Seed (Organic)
Background: It can be used to treat bronchitis, fever, cold and flu.
Applications: Stimulant/Laxative/Digestive/Irritant
Fever: Mustard can be used to help reduce fevers and treat the symptoms of cold and flu.
Joint pain: Applied externally, mustard can help relieve musculoskelatal pain and cause improved circulation.
Laxative: Mustard may be used to induce bowel movements.
Citric Acid
Reach for: Dried plums, aka Prunes
These high-fiber fruits help keep your gastric system working like a finely tuned machine. They may shrink your stomach, too. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that among 74,000 women surveyed, those who got more fiber were 49 percent less likely to suffer weight gain. Make your own trail mix with a handful of chopped pitted prunes plus walnuts, pumpkin seeds, dried blueberries, and hemp seeds.
Toss in: Tempeh
Made from whole soybeans that are then fermented, tempeh pads our guts with beneficial bacteria. After taking up residence, VanBeber says, these live microorganisms improve digestion, reduce gas production, and kill bacteria that cause ulcers. Like tofu, tempeh soaks up the flavors around it, so crumble a block and toss it into chili, soup, and pasta sauce.
Pairing certain foods can maximize the benefits:
What to pair: Yogurt and inulin
Goal: Healthy bones and digestion
Examples: Plain yogurt with sliced banana and wheat germ; plain yogurt with garlic, onions and leeks as a vegetable dip
