Couple in wedding bill fraud probe
A probe has been launched after claims that a pair of newlyweds ran off without paying their i10,000 wedding bill. The couple, who have been named as Alan Bennett and Lorraine Vickery by Devon and Cornwall Police, left businesses in Jersey worried about their money after all of the cheques used as payment bounced. The pair, who are said to be from Exeter, tied the knot in an elaborate ceremony on the island in February this year. Following complaints from members of the public, a police investigation is ongoing, said Detective Inspector Kevin Malloy, of Jersey's Criminal Investigation Department. It is alleged that a couple entered the island for the purposes of getting married and as a result a number of complaints were made with regards to potential frauds. David Bridges, owner of the Bleu Soleil campsite, where the couple held their wedding reception, told the Exeter Express Echo: They held their reception here at the Bleu Soleil and had a marquee installed here but the cheque they used to pay for it bounced. I understand they also used a local florist and bought their wedding cake here, but the cheques for those bounced as well. I am still trying to get payment.
