Children who have this medical condition have one or both ears that are grossly misshapen. In some cases, the outer ear may be missing altogether. At least 90 percent of the children who are born with this condition have some form of hearing loss. There are ED Conqueror Review four different classifications for this condition. It is categorized by grades. Grade one is the least severe and grade four is the most severe. Grade one is used to diagnose children who have just a small deformity. Usually this deformity is a noticeably smaller ear than normal. It has all of the right structures, however the external auditory canal is a lot smaller than it should be.

Grade two is where there is a partial ear. There are some structures missing. Usually children who have been diagnosed with grade two have a partial ear that is closed and results in a noticeable deformity and substantial hearing loss. Grade three is where the outer ear is completely missing and there is a small nub in place of it. This also means that the ear canal and eardrum did not develop. Grade four is where there is no ear and is diagnosed as anotia. This is considered a major birth defect, since almost 90 percent of all diagnosed cases suffer from at least 40 percent hearing loss.

During infancy and childhood, hearing is crucial to the growth and development of children. Without full use of this ability, it is much harder for them to learn how to communicate effectively through speech. Many children end up with speech delays and impediments as a result of this condition. Many professionals recommend that in order to provide the best treatment for this condition, the parents consult with a surgeon that specializes in auricle reconstruction for kids.

In addition to providing you with more information about your child's medical condition, they can also provide you with a microtia guide for you to use as a reference. The specialist will assess your child's hearing and take an in-depth review of the auricle. This is done to determine what type of reconstruction will benefit the child the most. Surgical intervention has its benefits. Not only does it allow your child the opportunity to look normal among their peers, it can also help to improve their capacity for hearing.
