Faux leather come in the form of fabric or finish intended to substitute natural leather in fields of
furniture, clothing, upholstery and other uses. There are various types of faux leather available today
to choose from including Poromeric imitation leather, Koskin and Leatherette.
Poromeric Imitation Leather – It has a fibrous base layer coated with a group of synthetics. It has
high gloss finish and hence can be cleaned quite easily.
Koskin Leather – This type of leather fabric made out of cow’s skin is commonly used for laptop
covers, wallets and many other consumer goods.
Leatherette Leather – It is covered with a PVC coat and you can see it on bound book covers and
lingerie too. It is also used for making clothes.
Faux leather fabrics come in all kinds of colours and patterns unlike original leather. Additionally,
it is durable and does not fade easily. High gloss finishes and easy clean and easy maintenance
features make it useful fabric for all. And unlike original leather, this is durable and does not fade
easily. High gloss finishes can be achieved easily. This leather can be cleaned with a damp cloth and
requires little maintenance. It does not crack and it is UV fade resistant.
Many of the international brands that produce lifestyle products such as jackets, vests, skirts,
handbags etc make use of Faux leather including Burberry, Tote, Dolce & Gabbana etc. Faux leather is
also used for home interiors, furniture making and wall cladding purpose.
Faux leather fabric is made from synthetic fibres. A fake leather bed that is poorly made will probably
fade or crack. This will either look unsightly or cause an unpleasant night's sleep. Quality faux
leather is more durable and comfortable; it is definitely more affordable than the genuine variety. The
person going with faux leather is simply looking for the style and look that is their primary concern.
