Boston appeared to have a goal barely three minutes into the game, but a review of the play ruled that Gregory Campbell had kicked the puck past Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen. The Bruins had a better chance to score some 11 minutes later. Boston was short-handed, but Brad Marchand had a breakaway. Lehtonen made a pad save. Dallas appeared to score from a scramble at 18:09 of the first, but a referee said he had blown his whistle before the puck crossed the goal line. Campbell had another chance on a short-handed 2-on-1 rush, but the Stars Erik Cole hustled back to hit Campbells stick as he shot. During that power play, Dallas had a 5-on-3 advantage for the last 35 seconds of the first period but couldnt score. The period ended scoreless, but the Stars had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. Boston took the upper hand in the second, with 11 of the first 12 shots. The game was stopped a short time later when Bostons Zdeno Chara inadvertently hit Johnson with a stick. Blood flowed from a cut near his left eye, but the goalie stayed in the game after receiving medical attention. Reigning world champion Eve Muirhead of Scotland opened with a 12-2 rout of Winnipegs Jennifer Jones in a battle of teams bound for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Muirhead stole three in the fourth end and two more in fifth to earn the full point in the team standings. "It was a great start, we played really well and the ice conditions are fantastic," Muirhead said. "We had a really solid game out there and to get the first points on the board for Team World was good." The teams will meet again, possibly this week and certainly in Sochi. "You forget that Sochi is only a couple of weeks away and Jennifers going to be there but it doesnt really cross your mind," Muirhead said. "We play Jennifer a lot during the season and every game is just as tough. It makes it no different to any other game if we play her here or at the Winter Olympics or at any (World Curling) Tour event." Norways Thomas Ulsrud gave World another point with a 7-4 win over Winnipegs Jeff Stoughton. Ulsrud, who is also bound for Sochi, picked up three points in the fourth end to open up the game.
