The alternative technology to compressor cooling is thermoelectric cooling. Thermoelectric refrigerators usually cost more than compressor technology. However, since they have no moving parts except a small fan or two to circulate air, they are significantly quieter and virtually vibration free. Thermoelectric cooling is definitely the technology of choice for storing wine.
6. Look for slide out shelving and an interior light
Whether or not the shelves in the refrigerator slide out may seem like a small matter, but when you actually start hunting for a particular bottle of wine in your cooler, it becomes a pretty significant issue. It's much easier to slide out of shelf and look at the wines on that shelf then to pick up and explore one bottle at a time. In addition, picking up individual bottles can cause the sediments to move from the bottom of the bottle into the wine itself... And that's a bad thing.
