In terms of specs, the Hitogami weighs in at 8oz Nike Air Max 90 Fleurs Femme Pas Cher in men¡¯s size 9, which is almost identical to the Sayonara. Sole stack height is also very similar at 23mm heel, 14mm forefoot. I have not found the 9mm drop to be a problem in the Hitogami, whereas in the Sayonara I think it contributed to my negative reaction. I think this is a perfect case where you need to consider drop in terms of more than just the numbers ¨C I can handle a higher drop shoe if it has a softish heel, and the Hitogami meets this requirement (as do shoes like the adidas Adios Boost and New Balance 1400v2). The Sayonara does not.
My Thoughts: Not a lot of protection in this shoe as it lacks a rock plate, but it served me well in a trail 50k and it¡¯s one of the more versatile shoes in my collection as it handles multiple surfaces well (including roads). You can read my review of the New Balance Minimus Trail MT10 here.
1. inov-8 Mudclaw 265 ¨C The new Mudclaw platform and outsole on the 265 is the best all-out mountain/off trail outsole I¡¯ve tried. The upper on this version is a little heavy and holds water too much (although this is getting fixed for an updated version this spring), but the fit is good and the traction is unparalleled in my opinion. It is also sticky enough to perform very well for scrambling on rock. Such a fun shoe for heading up a peak and back! Purchasing options: Running Warehouse (US) and Wiggle (UK).
Another question that arises is whether all neutral shoes behave the same way? No, at least not for me. Shoes with narrow, soft and thick midsoles have more tendency to tilt than shoes with wide, thin and firm midsoles, but fit and properties of the upper matter too. I tested several types of neutral shoes, and pronation was increased in them all, however some not as much as others. For example, the thin-soled Asics Piranha and the wide-soled Nike Lunar Racer shown in the photo below did not cause as much pronation. The worst was indeed the Adizero Adios, which does not have a particularly soft midsole but it is rather high and narrow. Unfortunately I have no photograph, but the Inov-8 F-lite 230 did show considerable over-pronation despite its wide base, probably due to a softer midsole and poor heel grip (I have a narrow heel).
The upper of the Hitogami is nice and simple, just what I like in a shoe. It¡¯s a basic mesh design with welded overlays, nothing too fancy. Simple and functional really. I have not run sockless in them yet due to the cold weather up here, but I don¡¯t feel any obvious sources of abrasion when putting them on a bare foot. I have had zero abrasion/chafing/blistering issues in these so far. There is a flexible heel counter (not obtrusive) an Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse Pas Cher d minimal arch support.
I¡¯m happy to report that Saucony has fixed the fit issue I had with the Kinvara 4. I¡¯d go so far as to say that the Kinvara 5 has a spacious fit in the forefoot. I feel no forefoot or toe squeezing, no unusual pressure. It¡¯s a very comfortable shoe. I did opt to go for a size 10.5 as I did in the K4, and I think it was the right choice ¨C I have about a thumb width in between my big toe and the ti Nike Air max Thea Pas Cher p of the shoe (I wore a 10 in Kinvara v1-v3).
