"Helping The World DISCOVER THE WAY of LOVE!"

I¡¯ve learned one Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse thing regarding stretching. I was doing the traditional calf stretch, which stretches the gastrocnemius, and I¡¯m pretty even on both the left and right side and it¡¯s not too bad. I didn¡¯t know about the soleus stretch that is done with a bent knee. I¡¯m actually very, very tight in the soleus on the injured side so that is what I¡¯m focusing on right now because that seems to be what is limiting my dorsiflexion. So, the Haglunds¡¯ seems to be a contributing factor, but both doctors and my physical therapist would concur that my lack of ankle dorsiflexion (only about 7 degrees) is probably contributing as well. I had ligament (ATFL) reconstruction on the ankle in 2008 and that probably left me with reduced range of motion, although I think we got most of it back. However, with the injury it has tightened back up. I¡¯ve had other injuries over the last year and tend to be very tight anyway and I suspect that combined with the barefoot running it may have caused the soleus to get very tight. Don¡¯t know. But it¡¯s very tight and getting things stretched back out is a slow and painful process. So right now the combination of the Haglund¡¯s, tight soleus and AT seems to be a recipe for a really sore heel.

Alternative way to measure heel and forefoot lift. In the left picture, I rested the stick on the wooden surface below and made a mark on the paper at the top of the stick to serve as the baseline. Next, I placed the stick centrally in the heel of the shoe along the same Nike Air Max 95 Pas Cher line as the first mark. I then marked the new height of the stick. Measuring the distance between the two marks represents the exact height that the stick was raised by the heel of the shoe. I used the same procedure to measure forefoot height.

Heel-Toe drop/offset/differential as defined by Brooks Running is ¡°the difference between (midsole + outsole) heel height and (midsole + outsole) forefoot height¡± (see picture above from New Balance if you¡¯re not clear what the midsole and outsole are). Thus, a drop of zero would mean that when seated in the shoe, the heel and ball of the forefoot would be at exactly the same height off of the ground. A drop of 12mm would mean that the heel sits 12mm higher off the ground than the forefoot. The importance of the HT drop value is that it¡¯s thought that the lower it is, the easier it will be to land on your midfoot or forefoot while running. I¡¯m not sure if there have been published studies confirming this, but my personal experience running in shoes of varying HT drop values, as well as a few of my informal laboratory attempts to correlate heel height in shoes with footstrike, seem to suggest that this relationship is likely real. I don¡¯t know of anyone who hasn¡¯t wanted to fly like Michael at one point or another. You start to wonder if he has jet packs in those shoes of his. Spike Lee even asked the question. But as Jordan has pointed out in a very pointed ad, it was never the shoes. His success was based on many, many hours of practice. So it is with running. Practice builds strength, speed, and endurance. Practice improves form and lowers the risk of injury.

None of these problems are purely sagittal plane ¨C you have to look at pronation/supination. Most of the time (as Allan noted himself), the original symptoms often occur on the medial side of the tendon ¨C poorly mediated pronation causing the stress on the side of the tendon (the convexity) most under stress during stance. I often find that runners with these problems have a forefoot varus alignment, even if their rearfoot alignment is relatively normal during stance. Barefoot video analysis shows this well and I find that more reliable than trying to accurately bisect/marker the rearfoot and lower leg (though I still do so as best I can).

I measured heel thickness at the center of the heel, and forefoo Nike Air Max Lunar outlet online t thickness where the ball of the foot (i.e., metatarsal heads) would rest. The latter was accomplished by sliding the clamp arm through the laces between the tongue and the eyerow of the upper, so that no upper fabric was included in the measurement (this couldn¡¯t be done in the Vibram Fivefingers KSO¡¯s or Nike Sneakerboat, so I estimated the thickness of the forefoot fabric and subtracted it from the measured height). All measurements were taken on both the right and left shoes and averaged (measurements were remarakably consistent between side Nike Air Max 2014 outlet online s on most shoes, giving me greater confidence in my data).
