"Helping The World DISCOVER THE WAY of LOVE!"
LEVI, Finland -- Canadas Marie-Michele Gagnon continued her strong start to the season with a fifth-place result in the first World Cup slalom of the year on Saturday, while teammate Elli Terwiel was a career-best 11th. Lorenzo Mauldin Youth Jersey . Gagnon, from Lac-Etchemin, Que., all but secured her spot on Canadas team for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games with a 10th-place finish in last months giant slalom opener in Austria and the versatile 24-year-old followed that up with two determined, attacking runs Saturday amid strong winds and varying light. After two races she is sixth in the overall ladies World Cup rankings. "Im stoked -- just super happy that this race brought me fifth place and so, so happy for Elli. She was awesome today," said Gagnon, who had a two-run combined time of one minute 56.80 seconds. "It was a weird race -- it was a bit of a free-for-all. "I knew I wasnt far out after the first run. I skied just like I do in training -- it was just like a normal run." Terwiel, from Sun Peaks, B.C., found herself sitting seventh after an incredible first run and although she fell back a little on her second run an 11th-place finish represents her best-ever result in a World Cup race. Britt Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., Anna Goodman of Pointe Claire, Que., and Erin Mielzynski of Collingwood, Ont., did not qualify for the second run. Terwiel, whose best World Cup results before Saturdays race were two 17th-place finishes -- both in January, 2013 -- took advantage of the wind dying down to put together a superb first run. "When I came down at the end of the first run I was fourth and I did a little bit of an open-jawed spin-around in the finish. It was a little too good to be true," said Terwiel, 24, who had a two-run combined time of 1:57.30. "A lot of things can go sideways so I tried to just focus on my skiing and the things Ive been working on in training this summer. This is my best result ever and its a top 12, which is one of the things I need for Olympic qualification. Its really exciting." American phenom Mikaela Shiffrin made a big mistake at the end of her second run but still dominated to win with a two-run combined time of 1:55.07. Germanys Maria Hoefl-Riesch was second (1:56.13) and Slovenias Tina Maze was third (1:56.68) -- just twelve-hundredths ahead of Gagnon. The 18-year-old Shiffrin led by half a second after the first run and raced seamlessly at the top of the hill in the second to extend her advantage, overcoming a mistake near the end to clock a combined time of 1 minute, 55.07 seconds. "Im really happy with how the day went and Im also really excited because it looks like there are some pretty fast girls in the back of the pack," Shiffrin said. "Im excited for the Olympics for sure but there are a couple of races between now and then, so hopefully I can just keep this going." The basic qualification criteria for nomination to Canadas Olympic team in alpine skiing is two top-12 World Cup results, with at least one this season. A single top-five result this year also counts, so Gagnon effectively cemented her place at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games with Saturdays result. Shes the only Canadian to have pre-qualified in alpine skiing to date. Kellen Davis Jets Jersey . The Barrie Colts defenceman, who impressed many with his play for Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship, is the top-ranked skater in the February rankings. He has 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 45 games with the Colts this season. Wayne Chrebet Jersey . Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. Negredo broke the deadlock from close range after a simple move in the 99th minute before Dzeko took the ball round goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal the victory in the 105th. http://www.footballjetsgearshop.com/women-jets/nick-folk-authentic-jersey/ .Y. -- Leading 3-0 with only 11:25 left, the Colorado Avalanche committed a seemingly meaningless penalty to give the New York Islanders a power play.LONDON -- England is flying under new coach Stuart Lancaster, boasting a young and hungry squad that is starting to make Twickenham feel like a fortress. Argentina lost all six of its matches in the recent Rugby Championship, has just fired its coach and is missing its captain and one world-class player. Surely an easy home win for the English on Saturday, then? Not according to captain Chris Robshaw. "As soon as you take a team like Argentina lightly, youre in a world of trouble," Robshaw said. Robshaws note of caution belies the increasing sense of assuredness and confidence that has spread through Englands ranks in Lancasters near two years in charge. Stretching back to the victory over New Zealand in December 2012, England has won eight of its last nine internationals -- a run that takes in back-to-back successes in a short tour of Argentina last summer, earned without its British and Irish Lions contingent. It has won its last five home games. Victories over southern hemisphere opposition used to be rare and extremely hard-earned. Yet, last Saturday, the English often laboured against Australia in their first international of the season but still ran out 20-13 winners. "Weve started this series fantastically and we need to kick on," Robshaw said. "We got some huge momentum, beating Australia for the first time myself. We know now what it takes to beat one of the southern hemisphere sides." Argentina isnt so buoyant. Reeling from a chastening Rugby Championship where they shipped an average of more than 37 points a game, the Pumas have replaced coach Santiago Phelan with Daniel Hourcade, seen iconic centre Felipe Contepomi retire and both captain Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe and Juan Martin Hernandez succumb to injuries that forced them out of the entire autumn series. Argentina hasnt beaten a major ruugby nation since winning in Wales on November 2012 but Juan Manuel Leguizamon, who will captain the team in place of Fernandez Lobbe, isnt giving up hope. Stephen Bowen Youth Jersey. "The team is very tight and our objectives are clear. People are talking about (Argentinas struggles), but we dont care, Leguizamon said. "We are all professional players and we must adapt ourselves as quickly as possible to the new system." As ever in games involving Argentina, one of the most powerful scrummaging units around, the front-row battle will be key. England has overhauled its entire front three, bringing in fiery hooker Dylan Hartley for Tom Youngs and props Joe Marler and David Wilson for Mako Vunipola, who is injured, and Dan Cole. Centers Joel Tomkins and Billy Twelvetrees struggled against Australia but are retained as the midfield pairing with first-choice Brad Barritt and Manu Tuilagi still injured. Ben Foden comes in for Marland Yarde on the wing, while lock Geoff Parling has recovered from the effects of concussion and is on the bench. ------ Lineups: England: Mike Brown, Chris Ashton, Joel Tomkins, Billy Twelvetrees, Ben Foden, Owen Farrell, Lee Dickson, Billy Vunipola, Chris Robshaw (captain), Tom Wood, Courtney Lawes, Joe Launchbury, David Wilson, Dylan Hartley, Joe Marler.
