Separation from Loved Ones
We are born into families, raised by parents, uncles and aunties, and raised with siblings. We all learn to love and care for them. All these become an integral part of who we are. We love them deeply and never want to be separated from them. In the same way, we make friends, who become a part of our lives. We share secrets, have various experiences together and hence become closely involved with them, emotionally. The fear of losing them sends chills down our spines. The thought of them dying and never coming back is perhaps the strongest fear that keeps us worried all our whole lives. Interestingly so, this can also be felt for people we don't know. Intensity may differ, though. This is purely a matter of empathy. For instance, if you hear of a plane crash in some part of the world, and even though you do not know any of the victims, you can still feel the pain of the bereaved families. This is because we can relate to the tragedy and feel the fear of facing a similar tragedy ourselves. One's Own Death
Death is an unresolved and unanswered mystery. This is another strongest human fear to make it to our list of five strongest human fears - it is with reference to one's own death. For centuries, humans have tried to look into it through variety of knowledge like astrology, magic and so on. However, all in vain - there has been no clear answers. Religions, practiced across the world, have talked about it but in very restricted and limited fashion. So, the actual mystery has never been revealed. The fear of dying and going to a place that we have never even heard of before is very frightening for humans in general. It is the central themes of many literary pieces, movies, art forms etc. This fear is one that has in the past and the present, and will always in the future, keep the fire of fear burning in the hears of the people around the world.
Loneliness
What will happen when my friends move out of the city? When my family would have no time for me? Would I end up alone? These thoughts keep occurring into our minds, as we are afraid of being lonely. Man is a social animal, and in order to survive in this world - be in psychologically, socially, or in any other way - we do need the company of others. According to an old adage, only a saint and an insane can live alone. Others need company. Loneliness is one of the five strongest human fears on our list.
Humiliation, Rejection and Failure
Another fear that we face is that of failure, public humiliation and rejection. All these are inter-knitted. While taking an entrance test to seek admission into a law school, you get nervous mainly due to the fear of rejection, which might result in humiliation. This is the fear that arises from the sense of failure. Our whole lives, we prevent situations which might cause us humiliation. We want to do best in everything so that we may not fail and be rejected. This is another common fear and this is why it deserves a spot on our list of five strongest human fears.
Loss of Freedom
Who does not want to be free? Losing freedom is another common fear that people encounter. In fact, it is also suffered in large groups and communities, collectively. This is the kind of fear that has a strong motivational drive to sustain freedom. Freedom is highly valuable, so and so that countries have fought for freedom - sacrificed their lives and peace to attain it. A person's right to freedom is given a lot of importance in law as well, reason being how serious people are about their freedom. Most men and women who suffer from commitment phobia, losing of freedom is the prime reason behind their phobia. They feel that binding in matrimony would ruin their freedom to live according to their desire. We spend most of our lives worrying about our fears. The list only encapsulates 5 strongest human fears; there are many more that we face in daily routine. By over thinking about our fears, we ruin our present, as well as future.
