"Helping The World DISCOVER THE WAY of LOVE!"

Stop Scrolling And Go Read These Watch Books

There are still people who don't understand why we do that. I mean, I love to think – and it's very pretentious – that we're creating pieces of art. Watches are not instruments anymore. They were instruments when they would be TikTok Trick Labs used to guide boats or pilots, or measure time for a race track, but they're not anymore. For me, they're becoming functional art.Whenever a consumer product gets a certain amount of cultural cachet from Blackness, I always wonder: Who was in the room when this was made, and who is profiting from it? Even in a watch that costs as much as a four-year education at a liberal-arts college, representation matters. It is not everything, but it is something.I think the Whitepearl look works really well here and the general starkness of the steel/white execution works with the 80s vibe of the design, especially for the large white markers and the matching white bezel triangle. Thanks so much for listening, and to Accutron for supporting this episode of Hodinkee Radio. In addition Biohybride Tech to his Breitling Navitimer and Gallet Multichron, the Scottish-born driver is well known for having worn an Enicar Sherpa Graph, which many now reference using Clark's name. With four different typefaces found on its dial, along with an applied Saturn logo, this is another one of those watches that doesn't make the most sense on paper, but works awfully well in the metal. These revival pieces are nearly identical to the watches that Zenith used to launch its iconic movement, a caliber that remains, 52 years later, its most famous asset. But if looking at these Revival watches has reinforced anything in my mind, it's that even if Zenith is best known for one very special automatic chronograph movement, the company was doing some really fantastic watch design when El Primero launched. What is really nice is that the developers of the cases and the dials are in the same room and they can speak. They find that level of understanding. This is a huge advantage in terms of creativity because you can look beyond the single part. You can look at the whole watch. Nine times out of 10, the issues in selling a watch come from a bad development process. The fact that you have an integrated development process makes you anticipate these things in development.Back in 2020, Doxa CEO Jan Edöcs decided he would set the record straight, once and for all.  He put together a team to get to the bottom of the Doxa Army mystery. He had all of Doxa's records at his disposal, but that was only half the battle. He would need access to the Swiss government's records and first-hand accounts of issued Doxas being used in the early '70s. That's where Hilty came in.

There is so much to learn and sometimes little mistakes and missteps can have big consequences down the line. In this classic, Ben shares some of the lessons he's learned along the way, from how to deal with other collectors to analyzing auction results to remembering to have fun. This is, after all, a hobby and a passion, and you should never lose sight of that.Read the full story here.Since then, Cartier has produced the Crash in limited numbers: a limited run of the London Crash in the 1980s here, an extremely limited edition Paris Crash in platinum in the early 1990s there. Perhaps the largest run was a limited edition of 400 from Cartier Paris, in 1991.While many watchmakers moved upward at this point in time, a generation of new companies was born to take their place. Germany's NOMOS Glashütte entered the fold to offer value-driven, in-house European mechanical watchmaking, while Swiss-made stalwarts such as Oris, Bell & Ross, Frederique Constant, Baume & Mercier, and a few others fortified the position at the front of the line for a high-quality Swiss wristwatch at a relatively accessible price.
