The LM101 feels like – okay, let’s just say it is – less of a conventional wristwatch and more of a gorgeous display case for a collection of ticking gears and spinning wheels. Likewise, the two floating white dials hover above each colorful and textured baseplate for an elegant effect that has come to define the look and function of the Legacy Machine series.Watches with the caliber 9R02 are out-of-this-world expensive, and even certain 9R31-powered releases such as the SBGY002, SBGY005, and SBGY008 have all been either too exclusive or too expensive at release for me to even consider a purchase. I also think it's fair to say we all missed the boat on the original SBGY003 when it was first released three years ago. And the SBGY007 "Omiwatari"? It seems to sell out so quickly that it's back-ordered pretty much every place you look.

As a fan of easy-wearing Seikos and Seiko 5's history of smaller sports watches, I think this is a substantial development for the modern Seiko 5 lineup that should only succeed in expanding Seiko's scope at this price point. Nicely done.
