The Perfect ‘Starter’ Tourbillon Has Arrived

We've just found out that a quartz Seiko watch from the 1980s, that was owned and worn by Steve Jobs, just sold at auction for $42,500 – and we'd bet cash money that's the highest price anyone has Réplicas Richard Mille rm 47 ever paid for a simple quartz Seiko reference 6431-6030. Starting at $21,000, this piece is about one fifth the cost of last year's Freak Vision. And while the movement is itself a simplified version of the one seen in the Freak Vision, this new watch comes with one of the Freak Vision's most important technical advances, a lightweight, balance wheel in silicon with nickel flyweights and stabilizing micro-blades.While there are a few other notable modern tuxedo dial watches such as the Cartier Roadster Tuxedo Dial and the Rolex Datejust "Tuxedo," Longines has done the best job at capturing the original magic of the classic tuxedo dial look and reworking it in a modern package.


There is an outer ring featuring 24 cities and a secondary ring outside that with 24-hour indication. As with all worldtimers, the way you read the time in each city is by lining it up with the hour on the ring next to it. Pretty simple. The big kahuna, a.k.a. the flying tourbillon, is placed in the bottom right quadrant of the dial, slightly cutting into the cities ring.With very little fanfare, 500 examples of the Aquaracer bearing the character silhouettes of the Japanese manga series One Piece on the dial were released in 2016 to the Japanese market. The Bulgari Roma in the incarnation you see here is a very cool watch in itself: a clear, strong, simple design with all the architectural precision you'd associate with a Bulgari Roma watch. You might recognize the general design, but what you might not know is that the first Bulgari Roma watch came out all the way Répliques Richard Mille montres back in 1975, at an extremely interesting period in the history of modern watchmaking.The release of the Antarctique spread like wildfire, and it's since expanded in a series of limited-edition runs, with new dial colorways, collaborations with media outlets, and in August of last year, a split-seconds chronograph. The Antarctique Rattrapante, which I covered when it was introduced at Geneva Watch Days, ended up being Czapek's most attention-grabbing debut to date.Considering the historical significance of the brand's story (again, this version of Czapek is a revival), it's equally nice to see it retain the classic horological design ethos of the dial as we've come to know it.There's an almost fairy tale-esque quality about the dial, from the typeface to the swirling layout of the different functions within each subdial. Maybe it's that splash of blue outlining the gold moon phase indicator front and center that reminds me of the book Goodnight Moon on the subconscious plane. This is a very, very positive association for me.
