Boston hadn’t only survived its lengthy road trip, the Red Sox fifa 15 xbox coins had dom-inated the trek . Ruth led the Red Sox pitching staff in September and would finish the month with a 6–1 mark . Mays, Foster, Leonard and Shore had been inconsistent at times, but also made some effective starts, especially on key occasions. The Red Sox didn’t have any outstanding month-long offensive per- formances, but clutch hitting , such as that of Harry Hooper and Duff y Lewis against Chicago and Detroit, were critical. Hal Janvrin, who didn’t hit well overall, had some key knock s and filled in admirably for Jack Barry. Overall in the second half of the month, the offense hit .277 compared to .233 in the first half.
The White Sox, also playing their final home game on September 25,did keep pace with Boston, with Hap Felsch, now back from injury, driving in three runs.77 While still four out in the loss column, Chicago (86–64) cut the deficit to 21 ⁄2 behind the 87–60 Red Sox . The Tigers (85–66) were four out with only three to play against St. Louis.
The following day was an off-day for all three teams. Boston’s return home was all business, and with the pennant not officially wrapped up, there was little fanfare. E.A. Batchelor decided to give credit to the Red Sox, who won in the face of injuries to key players like Larry Gardner and Jack Barry, writing , “A less courageous outfit would have curled up and died under the circumstances, but instead of doing so, Carrigan’s men just naturally went out and gave their best exhibition of the season. They did not lose a single series on the road.” In fact, Boston had out-hit its opposition in the West,.314 to .203.
The Boston Daily Globe reported on September 27 the Fall Classic would probably start on October 7, and the Red Sox would use the more sizable Braves Field for their home games. With Chicago and Detroit both off again that day, Boston won a dramatic, 3–2, 10-inning decision from New York in front of an appreciative crowd of 10,000 that welcomed the Red Sox home. After losing a 2–0 lead in the ninth, pinch-runner Mike McNally scored the game-winner on a Dick Hoblitzell squeeze bunt. Having almost closed the door, Boston reopened it slightly on the 28th, losing a 4–2 decision to the Yankees in 10 innings when New York rallied against Carl Mays (18–11). Detroit was again off, while the White Sox were rained out in Cleveland. It only brought the deficit down to 21 ⁄2 for Chicago, three in the loss column, but the White Sox and their writers seemed to be holding on to increasingly unre- alistic hopes for the pennant.
