Anne's boots are made for walking

Almost every day, Anne makes sure she walks to Spence Street leisure centre, off Humberstone Road, in Leicester, where she then takes part in classes such as aquafit, aerobics and over 50s mens ugg boots black classic short fitness classes.

From July 2 to August 5, participants were asked to log the minutes they had walked over a five week period.

"I thought I would take part because I really like walking," she said.

"I also really enjoy doing sponsored walks and in July I did the 10km Race for Life. Before that I did a 15 mile walk for Rainbows and a five mile twilight walk for Loros and I plan to do more in the future."

But Anne was not always such a bundle of energy.

Three years ago, she was diagnosed with kidney and other health problems.

She said: "I was pretty frail and lacking in energy. My GP recommended I take up exercise and I have not looked back.

"I would recommend walking to people as it certainly turned my life around."

Deb Watson, director of public health for NHS Leicester City and Leicester City Council, said people were being encouraged to log their minutes for the latest phase, which runs until Friday.
