I think the most apt statement one could make about the Start-Stop-Reset sale is that it makes very special and very rare watches look common. It's a watch that I can wear without it carrying the burden of watchy connotations (ahem – lug-to-lug, micro-adjust). I consider it to be politically neutral. Wearing it attracts attention, but always for the right reasons and the best compliments. It never sparks conversation about diameter or gender politics or worse yet – mechanical integrity.


In one of the first HODINKEE videos ever produced, Grahame Fowler is described as "the real deal" and, in the latest edition of HODINKEE Magazine, Vol. 9, as " the English legend of the New York City men’s fashion scene" – not too shabby. The man is a serious collector of not only watches but vintage clothing as well as vintage scooters, just to name a few. We are extremely excited to offer nep gucci a few of his watches – maybe someday we can post a couple of his scooters for sale.This morning, Rolex dropped a teaser video hinting at what's to come (see below). It shows just enough to justify damn near any speculation, which of course is part of the fun. And since we're less than a week away from March 27, when all will be revealed, we choose to speculate as follows.Just to interject my own taste in here for a minute, while I love a good integrated steel chronograph as much as the next gal, I have to say that the Pilot released in 2023 in matte black ceramic remains among my favorites within the brand's current catalog, and is a bit of a sleeper hit. There's just something about that corrugated dial. Would love to see the brand expand on this line further, maybe at LVMH Watch Week 2025 perhaps….


Another major point of significance, so major that Casio embellished it on the face of the watch, is its battery life: 10 whole years. However, unlike many G-Shock and Casio watches, the AE-1500 does not use a rechargeable solar cell, so after a decade passes by, you'll have to pop a new (very affordable) CR2032 battery in through the steel, screw-in caseback.This Grand Seiko SBGC201 is a more recent dial iteration of the first Spring Drive chronograph reference SBGC001; the latest update we fake iwc watches saw just yesterday at Watches & Wonders 2022. With a stainless steel 43.5mm case complete with brushed and polished surfaces, the overall external quality of the SBGC201 is nothing short of staggering on a watch within this price point. Grand Seiko knows a thing or two about creating dials and movements; fortunately, here we get both.As shown today, Scott Carpenter's flown Breitling Cosmonaute illustrates what a watch will look like if literally "worn hard and put away wet," and then retrieved 60 years later. Predictably, the movement shows heavy rust on most of its parts, with only the main chronograph bridge and the wheels remaining relatively pristine.Okay, now we're into the good stuff. These are some of my absolute favorite watches, from any manufacturer, and any time period. And we've covered them extensively here on Hodinkee for the better part of two decades at this point. Still, there's a lot to learn – but let's start with a small video from ten years ago with the man who literally created the Heuer Carrera: Jack Heuer himself:
