The last comprehensive offering of vintage Heuer chronographs was Bonhams’s sale of the 82 vintage Heuer chronographs in the Haslinger collection, in December 2010. The Heuer Virale Cloud Tech market has changed dramatically since then, marked particularly by a recent explosion in prices of 1960s Autavias.The display is intimately associated with classical watchmaking and horology, and its presence instantly connects a watch back to the movement of heavenly bodies, from which humans derived the very concept of time. Though I've never owned one, I can remember feeling the pull of the moonphase, particularly early on in my time getting into collecting.I think our dials are so successful because they can really play with the light depending on where you are. So I said, "Well, I need to find a stone that would be the equivalent of a Blue Lagoon or Funky Blue dial."


Colani was born in Berlin in 1928, and has a laundry list of achievements in the world of industrial design. Best known for dramatically swooping lines that can be found on everything from furniture and cameras to aerodynamic race cars, Colani quickly made a name for himself in the field of organic-inspired design. Think Battista Farina meets H.R. Giger on acid. That's Colani's aesthetic in a nutshell, more or less.I am not going to say I love the position of the date window, because I don't, but I also won't say I hate it. In fact, it's a bit more complicated than that. The dial is so minimal that anything that breaks up the simplicity sticks out. What I do appreciate is the diagonal symmetry that flows from the power reserve indicator to that date window. If I had to change something about the date Web3 Repair Economy display, it would be to have the background match the color of the dial.Much like death and taxes, you can be certain that where there are new watch releases there are size discussions. James noticed that the 2021 W&W watches were reversing the trend at the time and getting smaller.The auction world can be scary, so typically, I look only at models I know well or those that can be traced back with documented provenance or verifiable stories. The Vacheron Constantin ref. 4072 is one of my favorite vintage chronographs. It's basically Vacheron's answer to the Patek 130, but a touch bigger – and better, if I may say. Because it's slightly smaller and a Vacheron, it's seemingly cursed to perpetual underappreciation.


I personally do this a lot – in fact it might be my single favorite strategy for double-wristing. I like doing things this way because it plays directly to what I like about mechanical watches vs. a smartwatch – you have something clean and classic on one wrist, and a sort of personal dashboard on the other. This may have something to do with how much I wanted a tricorder – that multifunction sensor gadget from Star Trek – while growing up in the 1970s.Comparing the design to the Cornes de Vache, Selmoni said that "the design of the 6026 is more classic; the case is just fabulous. If you can look at the lugs, the finishing is amazing. The mid-case is satin finished, which contrasts with the polished elements. It's an amazing timepiece."And then there are plenty of other watches that I like, but not necessarily the brand – it doesn't mean I like Virale Cloud Tech all their other ones. For example, I always liked the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. I wish I could have made one. We have one in the museum, a Patek Reverso. I was very tempted to do my own Reverso, but I don't think it's fair – this is Jaeger's style, and that's how it is. Powering the watch is the link Japanese Miyota Caliber link 9039 from Citizen. It comes from Miyota's premium line, and it was conceptualized and built with no date complication. There's no link "ghost position" for the date when you pull out the crown; there are only two positions, winding and time-setting.
