How to Convert OST File to PST File in Outlook

Convert OST file to PST can be useful when you need to back up Outlook mailbox data, migrate emails, or access mailbox information on another Outlook profile. Microsoft Outlook does not provide a direct option to convert a standalone OST file into PST. However, if the Exchange or Microsoft 365 account associated with the OST file is still accessible, you can export the synchronized mailbox data using Outlook’s built-in Export feature.

Open Outlook and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export. Select Export to a file and click Next. Choose Outlook Data File (.pst), select the mailbox folders you want to save, and enable Include subfolders to include their contents. Choose a destination for the PST file and complete the export process. Outlook will create a new PST containing the selected mailbox data.

If the OST file is orphaned, corrupted, inaccessible, or disconnected from its original Exchange account, the standard Outlook method may not work. In such situations, specialized OST to PST converter software can help extract mailbox data directly from the OST file. Depending on the software, users may be able to preview emails and export contacts, calendars, tasks, and other mailbox items to PST. This approach can be helpful for recovering and migrating data from inaccessible OST files.
