"Helping The World DISCOVER THE WAY of LOVE!"
Hi everyone. Family trip, two kids aged eight and eleven, four days in Belgrade. I am trying to work out whether this is a sensible city for children or whether we will spend four days dragging bored kids around old buildings. Playgrounds, parks, anything hands on, river activities, that sort of thing. Most guides I find are aimed at couples and nightlife, which is not our situation at the moment. Any parents here who have done it? I would also like to know whether the museums are worth attempting with children or better skipped entirely.

It works better than you would expect. Kalemegdan has a large park with playgrounds and a fortress that reads as an adventure rather than a museum, plus a small zoo inside the walls. The riverfront promenades are good for running about, and in summer there are river beaches, including Štrand over in Novi Sad which is very family friendly. The Balkan travel guides , on PickBalkan are useful for working out which districts have parks and how far apart things are, which matters a lot with children. Food is easy, portions are generous and nobody minds kids in kafanas. Four days is about right, and I would spend one of them on a day trip out of the city. Also budget for ice cream stops, they are everywhere and cheap, and they buy you a surprising amount of patience.
