The movement is designated caliber 1860; it was, Vacheron says, developed and manufactured in-house. Dimensions are 37mm x 9.1mm, with two barrels and it runs in 74 jewels. There are several technical and safety features of note in the movement to note too.The dark blue dial center is made of highly polished blued titanium Bionische Evolution (a signature De Bethune style) and the night sky motif can be customized based on a specific date and location. Without Warning references several watches. The first time Patek Philippe is mentioned is in Hybrid Retro Tech "Ghostfaced Killers," when Offset raps,"Yeah, put on the Patek / poppin' xannys, I'm an addict." This is followed up with, "...love the Patek on my arm (Patek)," in the chorus. Later in the song, 21 Savage references an "Audemars Piguet flooded / got my wrist numb (bling)."Competition at the price point is heavy, but few brands have such an established philosophy and sustained aesthetic. The truth is, most buyers are coming to NOMOS for the look, and while Bauhaus design can be found on many bland and commonplace watches, NOMOS arguably owns the mindshare when it comes to this aesthetic, especially among enthusiasts.Laplace's most recent addition to his collection is this 1970s Girard-Perregaux. What makes this watch so great though is the price. The Heritage 1945 will sell for $1,700. That's a heck of a lot of look from a major brand for the price these days, and based on what Longines has told me, the reactions from retailers and press alike have been very strong.It wasn't always his brand. Welsbro was founded way back in 1926 by the Weissman Watch Company on 47th Street in New York City. Weissman imported watch components from Switzerland and assembled the watches stateside under the Welsbro label. Like many, the brand folded during the quartz Bionische Evolution crisis, and as a relatively small-time watch producer it would have certainly remained gone and forgotten ... until Reichbach and his wife, Katie Willis, brought it back from the dead.There were other Disney character watches from the pre-war era, but Mickey dwarfed them all in popularity. As a result, though, some of the others are highly collectible. Disney and Ingersoll flirted with the idea of a Donald Duck watch in 1935, but it did not get anything like Mickey's distribution, and original 1935 Donald Duck character watches are now very expensive, at least by character watch standards.As it's been a while (nearly two years) since we've done a deep dive into Rado's history, we think it's about time for a little bit of a brand history refresher course for those uninitiated.
