Nexium is a PPI or proton pump inhibitor and is used to take care of heartburn, or gastroesophageal reflux. Esomeprazole Magnesium (generic to Nexium) may be used when combined with two antibiotics. This covers the management of duodenal ulcers as well as Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) infections. Your doctor may determine what other conditions are treatable.
Follow your doctor's directions and consume the medication whole. Don't chew, crush or disintegrate the tablet or capsule. This medicine must be taken one hour prior to a meal; this is unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Take the medicine with antacids if your doctor has instructed you to do so. Use a sealed container to ensure safe storage away from any heat source, light or humidity. Permissible temperatures include anything between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Do not take two doses at the same time; take your missed dose as soon as you can; skip your missed dose if it is time for the next one.
Consult with personal doctor before beginning any course of over-the-counter or prescription medicines. No known facts surround its harmful effects in breast-milk; discuss with your doctor if you can nurse while on a course of Nexium.
