When your hair is falling out aggressively, it Hair Loss Protocol starts to wear on you after a while. You often look for proof that you are not alone and that you are not the only one going through this. And, luckily, this is easily accomplished by going to hair loss forums. Still, many of us look around at our family and friends and don't see anyone who is going through the same thing. So we start to wonder how common telogen effluvium truly is.

Someone might ask: "what percentage of women will actually experience telogen effluvium in their life time? I have been dealing with shedding for about five months. I've finally been connecting with people on a hair loss forum. But these are women from all over the world. In my own hometown, I don't know anyone who is experiencing what I am going through. I have surveyed all of my friends. They all look at me like they have no idea what I am talking about. Some of them have even asked me if I'm exaggerating a little. My sisters and my mother have never had hair loss. How many women will actually get telogen effluvium? Is it a small number or a large number?"

I have tried to research this and the answer seems to be that the number varies depending on who you ask. Without question, the highest percentage of women who get this type of shedding seem to be new mothers. I found a statistic indicating that as many as approximately twenty percent of women who have just given birth will have at least some hair loss. Of course, the severity of this differs. While I had horrific shedding after I gave birth, I've had friends who just noticed a couple of days of aggressive hair loss that quickly passed. So my friends saw no real long term change in their hair while I most definitely could not say the same.
